Prototype Modeling

In an effort to share his knowledge, Gene Green developed a clinic covering what is on the underbody of a freight car, why it's there, and how it is organized. He presented the clinic at a Sunshine Models' Prototype Modelers Meet at Naperville, IL. As part of the preparation he created a handout for the clinic.

Douglas Harding created a pdf document titled Freight_Car_Underbody.pdf from that handout. Page 16 is missing from the handout and is availabe in the file Freight_Car_Underbody-Pg_16.pdf .

These documents are in pdf format, you will need a pdf viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them. You can save them as files on your system by right clicking on the links and selecting 'Save Target As...' (Internet Explorer) or 'Save Link As ...' (Firefox).

Caution! The Freight_Car_Underbody.pdf document is very large at 20MB.

These documents are posted with permission from both Gene Green and Douglas Harding. Thanks Gene and Doug.

Books by Gene Green

Gene has authored a number of books of interest to modelers. These include:

Douglas Harding and the Iowa Central Railroad

Douglas Harding is the Superintendent of the Iowa Central Railroad (IaC) A small but key connecting line in Northwestern Iowa. Judging from the engine roster I expect it is also very profitable.

He has also published several articles in Railroad Model Craftsman, notably a Meat Packing series in 2004.
